Day 71: About the yard...and other things

It's tiny, but I like it. Nick got the lattice up on the fence and I bought some outdoor chairs at the thrift store for $1.99 each. The problem is the grass is getting very tall and we don't know how to deal with it.
There is not enough grass to justify buying a real lawn mower, so we're thinking either a weed eater or a good 'ol fashion push mower.
We've also got quite a healthy dandelion crop that I'm sure our neighbors appreciate.

It's beautiful today. We are experiencing a springtime thunderstorm, but it's warm enough to have all the windows open. The neighbors have lilacs and honeysuckle blooming. It smells heavenly. The trees are getting leaves, and the sun peeks out between cloud bursts and booming thunder.
Perfect.

To make this day even better, Ethan and I have the house to ourselves for a couple of hours. Nick is helping people move, Christa had a slumber party at a friend's house, Emma's church class is on an outing and Deven...lucky lucky Deven.
There is an adorable girl his age at church who has claimed him as her own. She is always asking him out to movies and such (with her mom chaperoning of course) and today she invited him to an all day Seminary activity that starts at noon and ends with a dance at nine PM. This girl is so sweet. She is super cute, smart and funny.
She also has a cochlear implant (google it if you don't know what it is) You have to make sure she is looking at you when you speak, or a lot of times she won't hear you. It's funny to watch her try to talk to Deven, because he usually mumbles or is looking away. She is also a little hard to understand sometimes, so their conversations consist of a lot of  "What?" back and forth. It's very cute.

  1. I agree - she IS a sweetie - no identities of course - but I know of who you speak of. SMILES

  2. Yay for Deven and a sweet girl. I think your yard and neighborhood look really cozy and nice. And, like I have said before, I would take a small backyard in a heartbeat.

  3. What about instead of a lawn mower, you buy a goat?

I love your sweet story about Deven and his friend. I can totally picture the two of them carrying on a "conversation". :)

  4. Hm, I was going to suggest making the kids cut the grass by hand with clippers... but I do like Luann's idea about the goat :).
